Discussing workshop ideas

The purpose of the Sessions page(s) are to encourage conversations from the community on ideas for virtual workshop or training sessions.

On the session page you can view the session already proposed and requested as well as propose or request a new one. By clicking into any summary card for a session you can read more about it, who is hosting it and participate in the discussion about the session.

Types of sessions

There are three categories of sessions,
Proposed – these are sessions that someone has suggested they would like to run. The person proposing the session becomes the session host. They will receive notifications about any patai or discussion on the session and can subsequently confirm (turning it into an event) or cancel the session.

Requested – these are sessions someone has asked for; an idea to discuss or challenge that someone has put out, asking for someone to host. Anyone can offer to host a ‘requested’ session, and from that po,int it will become a proposed session, and they will be the session host.

Confirmed – confirmed sessions are ones that the session host has decided to confirm or commit to (based on the session discussion or interest from others). Once confirmed, an event is created on the Events page, and community members can RSVP to attend.

Cancelled – the session host has cancelled this session. Community members can still comment and discuss the session. Should a session be cancelled, the associated event will also be cancelled and members who have RSVP’d will be sent an email to this effect.

On the right-hand pane of the Session page, you can see recently added sessions and replies to a requested or proposed session. Clicking on these will take you to the specific entry.

At the top of the page is the button to propose or request a new session. Clicking on this page will take you to the new session page. Here you decide firstly if you’re requesting or proposing a session. Based on your decision here you will be presented with different fields to complete to finalise the session.

Visibility: Sessions and session comments are publicly visible.

Language and Terminology

This section explains some of the key terms used across the site and will be expanded based on feedback from users. We have started with some terms below, click on these to expand them.

Session Host

The term we have used for the community member who has proposed a session that they will deliver (depending on community response and discussion).

Event

A session that the session host has confirmed and is now scheduled to be run.

Registration and Login

We have made it a requirement for people to need to register as members of the community to see and participate in most of the activities on the site. This helps us ensure everyone has agreed to participate and also allows us to moderate and put some protections in place for the communities’ contributions. We have put prompts in place to remind you to log in if you come to a page and are not already logged in. The login form will usually be in the top right corner of your screen.
