The Treaty is not a metaphor - or is it....
Proposed
The title of this workshop is based on an influential article from the US ("Decol is not a metaphor", Tuck and Yang) which argues that treating the concept as a metaphor enables us to co-opt the meaning to be whatever we want it to be, which in turn enables us to avoid consideration of necessary changes that are too uncomfortable.
I will present some points on both sides of the position as to whether it's appropriate for allies to refer to the Treaty as a metaphor, before we break into small groups to discuss and then close with a brief sharing of views.
