Where Is Tiriti Education Going?

Challenges and possibilities for the next generation of Tiriti work.

For more than four decades, Tiriti educators and activists have helped transform public understanding of colonisation, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the responsibilities of tangata Tiriti. But the context has changed. Familiarity with Te Tiriti has grown, while uncertainty about meaningful action, political resistance and questions about the limits of one-off workshops remain.

This facilitated online panel brings together Catherine Delahunty, Dani Pickering, Mikesh Patel and June Nicklin to explore what we can learn from the history of Treaty education, what has worked, where the work may have become stuck, and what the present moment requires of Tiriti educators and the wider Tiriti workers’ movement.

The session is intended for Treaty and Tiriti educators, facilitators, community workers and others interested in how education connects with organising, action and structural change.

See the attached panui for more information about the session and panel members.
Session outcome:
Participants will gain a richer understanding of what Tiriti education has achieved, the challenges now facing the work, and the different approaches that may be needed for its next phase. They will leave with new questions, connections and possibilities for linking education more deliberately with action and structural change.
