Learning about Communities of Practice

Proposed
This will be an overview of the concepts and best practices for a Communities of Practice (CoP). Building off the guidance from the originator of the term, Etienne Wenger, as well as more recent guidance from Ako Aotearoa funded research, this session will share some ideas and advice for people wanting to setup a Community of Practice specific to a topic or sector, some suggestions for how this site can support the group, as well as a chance for others to share their experience and questions on CoPs.

We are excited to be able to confirm that Dr Lesley Petersen will be co-hosting this session with us. Dr Petersen specialises in designing and implementing evidence-based mentoring programmes.  A central aspect of her work is establishing and facilitating Communities of Practice (CoP)  that strengthen collaboration, peer learning, and knowledge sharing. Through this work, she assists organisations and education institutions to create structured spaces for professionals to exchange ideas, build capability, and embed sustainable practices.

Please RSVP to the event to let us know you're keen.
Session outcome:
Attendees will end the session with a good understanding of how CoP's work, how they can take the next step on the site to setup a new CoP that suits their interests, join an existing one and support their CoP to thrive.
